During our drinking and drug use years, and even before, many of us found it difficult to accept authority. Many individuals in society are able to abide by the strict letter of any rule, regulation , or law. Alcoholics and drug addicts seem to have a tendency to test and retest the validity of any real, potential, or imagined restriction on their behavior. In fact, Oxford House creates an environment whereby each member can more fully realize the benefits available from active AA or NA membership.

The scars of war

Oxford Houses flourish in metropolitan areas such as New York City and Washington D.C. And thrive in such diverse communities as Hawaii, Washington State, Canada and Australia; but they all abide by the oxford house traditions basic criteria. In its simplest form, an Oxford House describes a democratically run, self-supporting and drug free home. Parallel to this concept lies the organizational structure of Oxford House, Inc.

The Bodleian Library is a beautiful and historical piece of architecture, which is still used as a library today. For those looking for something a little less traditional at great prices, the Pitt Rivers Museum is one of the most popular attractions for those living in Oxford and teaches about natural history in an interesting and exciting way. For a more outdoorsy experience that costs nothing, Christ Church Meadow is a scenic park that offers walks across areas of vast natural beauty, rivers and, meadows.

Self-run, Self-supported Recovery Houses

Some of Marinka’s displaced people have chosen to hang together, in another town, Pavlograd, a hundred miles away. “This project is a significant step towards a more sustainable Oxford; however, we know on its own, it is not enough to get us to our target of bringing 95% of council homes up to EPC C by 2030.» Images posted by local media show the ruined home in flames after the explosion, which left a window and other debris scattered nearby.

• Battles raged in Mariupol for months in 2022 before the last bastion of Ukrainian forces, trapped in a steel plant, were captured.

Self-Help for Sobriety Without Relapse

Using detailed analysis of years of satellite data, we developed a record of each town, each street, each building that has been blown apart. We analyzed every building across Ukraine that has been damaged or destroyed since Russia attacked two years ago. The number of residents in a House may range from six to fifteen; there are houses for men, houses for women, and houses which accept women with children.

The Board of Directors maintains the sole right to Charter, and to revoke the Charter of, individual Oxford Houses and exercises authority over the policies and officers of Oxford House, Inc. In this way, Oxford House, Inc. remains responsive to the needs of the population it serves. One can only be dismissed from an Oxford House because of drinking, using drugs, non-payment of rent, or disruptive behavior. Every opportunity should be given to a member who needs professional help to see that he obtains it.

Oxford Brookes University is another well-known institution within the city and offers over 9,000 places each year, most of which have a more vocational slant than the courses offered at the University of Oxford. It is not easy to spread the word of a new concept or an old concept with a new twist. Propagation, or spreading the word, of the Oxford House concept is given the highest priority by the members of Oxford House. Failure to adhere to any of these three requirements would bring the entire Oxford House concept into question.

• The charter of each Oxford House requires that an Oxford House meet certain minimum requirements of Oxford House, Inc.
• The concept and the standardized, democratic, self-supported Oxford House system of operations itself are far more persuasive than any individual.
